 Welcome to Footscray Rugby Club, a dedicated member of the Victorian Rugby Union and one of the oldest Victorian Rugby Union clubs.
80 YEARS YOUNG & STILL GOING STRONG!
Season 2008, which started back in March and for some players and coaches did not end untill the last Friday of September, has come to an end, but there will be lots of activities the coming month.First, the AGM, which will be held Saturday afternoon, the 29th of November, and will be more than just a lot of formalities. We intend to have a BBQ for all members and the parents of the junior players. So, come down to our clubrooms, Saturday the 29th of November, from 1:30pm!We will continue our TRY rugby sessions for all kids who want to give rugby a try! Come down and bring your friends, it's all gonna happen from Wednesday the 12th of November and every Wednesday from then on, between 5:30 and 6:30pm. Parents will enjoy the atmosphere and the chance to knock back a cold drink at the end of a long, hard working day!Contact Gary (0407827276) or Jesse (0425742736) if you want to give Junior Rugby a TRY! All veteran rugby players may want to start preparing their old, battered bodies for the Masters Games next year! For the 1st time rugby will be included, and Footscray will join with a team of grizzly ruggers. The rugby tournament will take place in Geelong during the last weekend of February. So, if you were born before 1974, get back into some shape over summer and play your heart out, one more time!We will come together to form the team and plan our way to Masters' Glory on Wednesday the 19th of November at our clubrooms at 7:00pm. Our clubrooms have had a make-over by a group of dedicated hard workers. Fresh coats of paint, new photo galleries and trophy cabinets and a very thorough clean-up have turned our rooms into a monument to 80 glorious years of community rugby. A special mention should be made for the Ladies, who have been going at it for weeks. The council has put in new carpet, a very fitting present for our 80th anniversary!
More good news: the north side of the carpark at our homeground has been redeveloped. From a dust bowl in summer and an icy swamp in winter to a drained, sealed and landscaped carpark. And parking is still free at weekends, so 3 cheers for the Maribyrnong council! Let's hope there is still money in the budget to transform the southern end soon. Your rates at work, well my rates, at least! Always seeking Juniors! Everybody is welcome to give it a try! Every boy or girl that signs up will get a match whenever there is a match for your team! Footscray RUFC has been established since 1928 supporting both 1st and 2nd Grade teams, Colts and Juniors, winning several premierships and producing 5 Wallabies along the way. We are located at the Henry Turner reserve, next to the VU and Footscray Park.
